The RDAP Association’s annual member awards recognize significant contributions to the RDAP Association, the field of research data access and preservation, and the data community. The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes a significant contribution to the RDAP organization, and the Work of the Year award recognizes a significant contribution to the field of research data access and preservation. More detail on each award is below.
This year’s round of awards will be referred to as the 2025 awards. The eligibility period for this round of the awards is January 2024-June 2025, as we move from a calendar year schedule to an academic year schedule. Nominations open in mid-June and close at the end of the day on Monday, August 4th, 2025. We aim to announce winners in the fall.

The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an RDAP member who has made significant contributions to the development and advancement of the organization. The award celebrates the efforts of the volunteers whose work is vital to RDAP’s continued success.
To be eligible, the nominee must be a current RDAP member and a member of an Action Committee or Task Force within the eligibility period (currently January 2024-June 2025 as we move to an academic year schedule), in which they were nominated. Current members of the RDAP Executive Board and Awards Task Force are not eligible for this award. Individuals may nominate themselves.

The Work of the Year award recognizes an outstanding publication, program, or other publicly available work related to research data access and preservation. The award acknowledges the work’s impact on the wider research and scholarly communication ecosystem in support of the RDAP Association’s mission and values. Nominated works can be produced by any number of individuals, but prize winners must be RDAP members, and prizes will be awarded to up to five individuals.
Eligible works must be produced by at least one current RDAP member within the eligibility period (currently January 2024-June 2025 as we move to an academic year schedule), and must be published, documented online, or otherwise publicly accessible to allow for evaluation. Individuals may nominate published or publicly available works created by themselves or others.
